Hunka Hunka Burning Out

Whether you believe the Great Resignation is real or not, we can all agree that employee burnout is. Maybe, burnout is easier to accept because we’ve all felt it at one time or another. You might be feeling it now.

What is “burnout”?

According to the World Health Organization, burnout is an occupational phenomenon. It is driven by a chronic imbalance between job demands and job resources. It is characterized by extreme tiredness, reduced ability to regulate cognitive and emotional processes, and mental distancing.

So just how bad is it?

Axios recently reported that even your boss wants to quit. They cite an employee survey conducted by Deloitte, that reports 76% of c-suite executives and 57% of employees are currently upset enough to consider resigning.

While it might be nice to pack it all up and spend some more time in the sand, that’s just not realistic. Nor is what most employees want.

So what can be done to make workers feel less burnt out?

Well, beyond throwing cash at them, Forbes released a list of HR trends for 2022, the #1 source of focus: employee well-being.

That’s right! Employee well-being is no longer a nice-to-have, but a must-have. Leading companies are re-thinking how to attract and keep top talent and that means widening the scope of employee wellment.

Remio has seen our partners execute a number of initiatives to address this. Everything from hybrid work schedules to once-a-month “mental health days” to finding new ways to connect with their coworkers. That’s one area that the metaverse can help employee-wellness and reduce burnout.

What are things you can do to improve employee wellness at your company?

Here are a few tips and a shameless plug 😉

  1. Allow employees to prioritize their work-life balance. Simone Johnson also details 11 other tips here that do not include giving raises.

  2. Train your managers to recognize burnout and equip them with tools to mitigate the negative effects.

  3. Allow your distributed to meet each other. Yup, that’s right. Allow your remote team a safe place to meet and have some organized fun.

That’s how Remio helps companies reduce burnout and maintain a positive company culture. Remio is the only VR platform on the market that allows for a safe, fun place for teams to have structured ‘play time’. If your team is suffering from burnout, has EOQ goals they need to hit, or simply needs to blow off some steam, organize a team event for them in Remio.

But we do Virtual Team Happy Hours on Zoom. Zoom sucks for virtual happy hours and there’s little evidence that proves it helps employee wellness.

You know what does? A game of flip-cup with your co-workers, defending a castle from fire-breathing dragons, high-fiving your teammates you’ve never met in person.

We’ve seen and heard how much Remio’s immersive experiences help teams get to know each other and prevent employee burnout.
