Software Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing a team of software engineers and their various projects. You can expect to work closely with our Art, frontend, backend, and VR teams. This is a great opportunity for someone who has managed VR engineering teams in gaming environments. This role reports to our CEO and CTO.

 

Responsibilities

  • People management
    • You will nurture and grow your team, ensuring they have consistent opportunities to learn, improve, and expand their impact and value to the company.
  • Product management
    • You will help manage the product roadmap, communicating and executing timelines, understanding scope, and mitigating risk throughout our development cycles.
    • Lead quality assurance
  • Innovation
    • You will work closely with the sales team to understand and anticipate the future needs of our customers and execute feature development that continues to drive improvements and delight users.
  • Documentation & Process Improvement
    • You will cultivate a culture of documentation, communication, and process improvement which fosters a highly collaborative remote work environment.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers
  • Technical experience developing in C# and Unity
  • History of shipping software products and features with continuous development cycles
  • Experience leading/managing 3rd party vendors
  • The ability to lead thoughtful discussions and defend your opinions on technologies, frameworks, and process choices
  • Experience leading teams through growth, including interviewing, onboarding, and performance management
  • Comfortable remaining hands on for ~25% of your time, reviewing others’ code and participating in testing
  • Passion for helping engineers grow their technical, management, and people leadership skills
  • Solid understanding of VR technology
  • Proficient and effective communication skills
  • Welcomes criticism and collaborates well as part of a diverse team, innovating without losing sight of the gameplay vision
  • Ability to work remotely, manage time effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced startup culture
